The DeVass Shipyards Roadmap
I work on these models in my spare time, around my day job and other work & family commitments, hence I don’t have an extensive plan for how long a model is going to take to develop.
Now that I have started to document the project, both through this website and via it’s YouTube channel and Facebook page, I have more motivation to set myself specific deadlines to at least get the next bit of information out about what’s happening with the project.
Current model in progress:
The Interstellar Queen - by Angus Mckie
One of the most iconic craft featured in the book, I really wanted to do it justice so rather than modelling in Fusion 360, I went to my other software of choice – 3DS Max – which I have been using for over 20 years. This gave me a lot more freedom to model in a way that I am used to, and allows me to add intricate details that would be time consuming or at least very hard to do with the tools available in Fusion. Below are the latest Work-In-Progress renders of the ship. At present I am not working to a particular scale (although I have a few ideas that may dictate the scale down the line), so I am just adding details until it feels right, after which I will break the model apart for optimisation and 3D printing.
A lot of elements of the ship were shown in the paintings in the book but one area that was omitted was a rear view of the engines, of which all that existed was a two dimensional plan view. I used that as a starting point and built from there.
Below the sideshow is the latest modelling video for the project, and if you subscribe to the DeVass Shipyards YouTube channel you can keep up to date as I endeavour to upload a new video every one or two weeks, as time allows.
